A Milestone for Women’s Cricket Officiating
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced the list of match officials for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Set to be hosted by England and Wales from June 12 to July 5, 2026, the tournament promises to be a global spectacle. In a move that highlights the governing body’s commitment to gender diversity and meritocracy, the ICC has unveiled an all-women officiating lineup for the third consecutive edition of the tournament.
This year’s panel consists of 18 highly qualified officials who will oversee the 12 teams competing in the event. Among the notable highlights of the selection is the inclusion of four Indian officials, reflecting the growing presence and expertise of Indian match officials on the international stage.
The Indian Contingent and Tournament Debuts
Leading the Indian representation is the experienced match referee GS Lakshmi. Alongside her, the roster includes umpires Vrinda Rathi and Janani N., who continue to make significant strides in professional cricket. Additionally, Gayathri Venugopalan is among the four officials making her T20 World Cup debut this year, marking a significant milestone in her officiating career.
The tournament, which features 12 teams divided into two groups, is eagerly anticipated. Group A includes powerhouses like Australia, India, and South Africa, alongside Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands. Group B features hosts England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, the West Indies, Ireland, and Scotland. Fans are particularly looking forward to the high-voltage clash between India and Pakistan scheduled for June 14 at Edgbaston.
A Blend of Experience and Fresh Talent
The 18-member panel is a balanced mix of seasoned veterans and emerging talent. Nine officials have been retained from the successful 2024 edition, ensuring continuity and consistency. Among the veterans, Australian umpire Claire Polosak is set to officiate in her sixth World Cup, while Jacquline Williams and Kim Cotton are preparing for their fifth appearances.
Joining GS Lakshmi in the match referee category are Shandre Fritz, Michell Pereira, and New Zealand’s Trudy Anderson. The debutants joining the ranks this year are Shathira Jakir Jesy, Kerrin Klaaste, Candace La Borde, and Gayathri Venugopalan, all of whom have earned their spots through rigorous performance evaluations.
ICC’s Vision for Officiating Standards
ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta praised the assembly of this panel, noting that it represents the ICC’s broader strategy of expanding representation across all facets of the game. He emphasized that the selection process was comprehensive, evidence-based, and focused on decision-making performance demonstrated during the ICC CWC 2025.
“This panel of match officials for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 reflects the ICC’s commitment to expanding the scope of representation to all facets of the sport,” said Gupta. “The ICC takes into consideration a comprehensive, holistic, and evidence-based account while assessing its sports officials. We are delighted to see the progress made by these officials and the elevated standards of officiating they demonstrated during the last cycle.”
