PBKS Address Dressing Room Drama and Internal Allegations During IPL 2026
Turbulence in the Punjab Kings Camp
The 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) has transformed from a promising start into a whirlwind of controversy. After enjoying an unbeaten run through the first half of the tournament, the franchise has hit a significant slump, suffering four consecutive defeats and sliding to fourth place on the points table. However, it is not just the on-field results causing concern; the team has been under intense scrutiny due to a series of explosive reports regarding internal discipline and dressing-room drama.
Addressing the Allegations
As speculation regarding the team’s professional conduct began to mount, the Punjab Kings franchise felt compelled to issue a formal statement to address the growing list of allegations. Reports circulating on social media claimed that several squad members were skipping morning training sessions due to late-night gaming habits, while other narratives suggested that players were missing scheduled flights. One of the most prominent allegations involved batter Prabhsimran Singh, whom reports claimed had gained 10 kilograms during the tournament—a rumor the player has since moved to dismiss.
Further turmoil was fueled by viral videos circulating online. One such clip purportedly showed a verbal altercation between fast bowler Arshdeep Singh and captain Shreyas Iyer at an airport. Additionally, Arshdeep found himself at the center of another controversy involving allegations that he hosted his rumoured girlfriend, Samreen Kaur, on the team bus in violation of BCCI protocols.
The Official Response
In response to the misinformation, the Punjab Kings organization utilized their official X (formerly Twitter) account to issue a stern warning against the propagation of fake news. The franchise emphasized that they would not tolerate the spread of baseless rumors and hinted at taking serious action against those peddling misinformation.
During a press conference ahead of their pivotal clash against the Mumbai Indians at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, assistant bowling coach Trevor Gonsalves took the opportunity to clear the air. When questioned about the team management’s strategy for shielding players from external criticism, Gonsalves adopted a pragmatic stance.
Focusing on the Game
“I’ll be very frank with you. I expected this question coming up. There’s no doubt about it. Yes, today social media plays a big role. The news plays a big role. How the big players handle themselves against all these things is absolutely important,” Gonsalves stated. He maintained that the players are experienced professionals who do not require instruction on how to manage their personal conduct.
Gonsalves further dismissed the weight of internet speculation, noting, “You know, any blogger or any person can go and put up anything on the social media. And there are lakhs of people agreeing to it and saying yes or no. But frankly speaking, we are not too concerned about what the social media says. Now, at present, we are only concerned and worried about tomorrow’s game, of how we are moving forward in the cricketing part.”
Looking Ahead
As the Punjab Kings prepare for their encounter with the Mumbai Indians, the focus remains firmly on breaking their losing streak. For Mumbai, who have already been eliminated from playoff contention, the match represents an opportunity to act as spoilers. For Punjab, however, the stakes are significantly higher as they attempt to regain their momentum and secure their standing in the tournament. By moving past the off-field distractions, the management hopes the squad can return to the form that characterized their dominant opening performances earlier this season.
