Arjun Tendulkar Registers for T20 Mumbai League Amid LSG Sidelining
Arjun Tendulkar Seeks New Opportunities Amid Lack of Game Time at LSG
In a significant move for his professional trajectory, Arjun Tendulkar has officially listed himself for the upcoming T20 Mumbai League. This development comes at a time when the young all-rounder has found himself consistently overlooked by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) during the ongoing IPL 2026 season.
For any aspiring cricketer, the Indian Premier League (IPL) represents the pinnacle of visibility and growth. However, for the son of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, the 2026 season has been defined more by preparation than participation. Despite being an integral part of the LSG squad and training camp, Arjun has yet to feature in a single match this season, leaving fans and analysts questioning the selection strategy of the franchise.
The Paradox of LSG’s Struggle and Arjun’s Absence
The situation is particularly striking when considering the current form of the Lucknow Super Giants. LSG is currently languishing at the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table, having managed only two victories in their first eight encounters. Typically, when a team struggles so significantly, management looks to rotate the squad and experiment with fresh talent to break a losing streak.
Despite this desperate need for a turnaround, Arjun Tendulkar has remained on the sidelines. While he has not been granted a place in the playing XI, reports from the camp suggest that Arjun has maintained a professional and humble demeanor. He has been frequently spotted performing support roles, such as carrying drinks for his teammates, and has shown immense dedication during the high-intensity practice sessions.
Inside the nets, the feedback has been positive. Coaches and teammates indicate that the left-arm pacer has been bowling with discipline and consistency, proving that his skill set is sharp even if the opportunity to apply it on the big stage has not yet arrived. As a genuine all-rounder, Arjun offers versatility with both bat and ball, a combination that is usually highly valued in the T20 format.
Looking Beyond the IPL: The T20 Mumbai League
Recognizing that match fitness and competitive rhythm cannot be replicated in the nets, Arjun has shifted his focus toward the T20 Mumbai League. According to reports from journalist Gaurav Gupta, the pacer has entered the auction with a base price of ₹5 lakh. The auction is slated to take place on May 2 in Mumbai.
This move is a calculated effort to gain the match experience he is currently lacking. Having represented Goa in domestic cricket, Arjun did not participate in the previous edition of the Mumbai league, making this entry a pivotal step in his quest for more active playing time.
Navigating the Regulatory Hurdles: The MCA Exemption
Arjun’s path to the T20 Mumbai League was not without administrative obstacles. Under the standard regulations of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), a player returning to the local league after playing as a guest for another state association must undergo a mandatory one-year “cooling-off” period. Given Arjun’s tenure with Goa, he would have normally been ineligible for the current season.
However, in a move that clears the way for the young all-rounder, the MCA has granted a special exemption. MCA secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar clarified the situation, noting that the BCCI intervened to allow his participation.
“Since they have not participated in the T20 league organised by the association of their respective teams, the BCCI has allowed them to participate in the T20 Mumbai League,” Khanvilkar told Sportstar.
A formal communication from the MCA to franchise operators confirmed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) approved the participation of both Mr. Arjun Tendulkar and Mr. Siddhant Addhatrao in Season 4 of the T20 Mumbai League.
The Importance of Domestic Platforms
For young players like Arjun, domestic leagues are more than just tournaments; they are essential showcases. The T20 Mumbai League provides a high-pressure environment that can act as a springboard, attracting the attention of national selectors and IPL scouts alike. By stepping out of the shadow of the LSG camp and into the competitive arena of Mumbai cricket, Arjun is taking ownership of his career progression.
As the IPL 2026 season progresses, the question remains whether LSG will eventually integrate him into their line-up to spark a revival in their form. Regardless of the outcome in Lucknow, the T20 Mumbai League offers Arjun a vital platform to prove his worth and demonstrate that he is ready for the demands of professional T20 cricket.
